50th anniversary: congratulations UAB!
The UAB (Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona), the Barcelona Synchrotron Park’s strategic partner, began its 50th anniversary celebrations with the inaugural ceremony held last week at the Monastery of Sant Cugat del Vallès, the same place where the first opening lecture of the university was given in 1968. Former UNESCO director Federico Mayor Zaragoza defended the culture of peace in his conference entitled “The University at the front line for inventing the future”.
Let’s take advantage of this anniversary to point out some figures from the UAB’s 2016-2017 report: 46,749 students, 3,757 professors and researchers, 87 bachelor degrees, 133 master degrees, a € 313 million budget, 264 research groups, 1,072 PhD produced, among the world’s top 100 universities in 12 areas (QS ranking).
