Catalonia, Top Continental Europe Region in R&D Foreign Investments Attraction
According to FDI Markets, Catalonia is since 2010 the top Continental Europe region in R&D foreign investments attraction (the third one after Ireland and South East in United Kingdom) explained the Acting Catalan Minister of Economy and Employment in a presentation given on December 11.
These data indicate that along the 2010-August 2015 period, 66 R&D foreign investments projects had been registered in Catalonia, representing a global amount of 1.07 billion euros and the creation of 6,000 jobs.
Based on FDI Markets sources, companies that have invested the most in Catalonia are Germany, the United States, Great Britain, France and Japan, in that order. The reasons why they have chosen this region are the highly-qualified workforce, the innovation and technology ecosystem, research centers and universities and the importance of the industrial sector. Pharmaceutical, ICT, plastics and additives sectors are the most important ones in these investments.
