The Catalan Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology receives the Severo Ochoa accreditation
On last July 15, the Catalan Institute for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) located in the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) that the Barcelona Synchrotron Park works with, received the Severo Ochoa accreditation (2013 tender) from the State Secretary for Research, with four other Spanish research institutes.

With the purpose of rewarding excellence, the Severo Ochoa state program initiated in 2011 aims at giving a financial support to the best Spanish research centers (€ 1 million per year during 4 years) and provides them with privileged conditions for accessing large research facilities, recruiting personal or having access to sponsors.

With 170 researchers, ICN2 is devoted to studying and understanding fundamental physical phenomena associated to electrons, photons, phonons or plasmons, investigating new properties derived from tailored nanostructures and establishing new process for the design and fabrication of new nanodevices.
