IBM opens a new Data Center in Barcelona Synchrotron Park
IBM officially opened its first cloud computing center in Spain, the ninth in the world with such features, after a six million Euros investment. Its service will be offered to customers from all over the world.
This center is located inside the Data Center infrastructures owned by La Caixa in Barcelona Synchrotron Park and managed by IBM.
This new cloud center includes one of the four Catalan government Data Centers (that dedicated to health, social welfare and family) adjudicated last year in order to save money and to gain productivity. The contract signed with IBM in the last quarter of 2012 represents a 140 million Euros commitment for the next 10 years.
The infrastructure of this new center has been awarded this year by British magazine The Banker, the prize to innovation in the Green IT category, for the high energy efficiency level and the reduced power consumption that allow a saving of 41%.
