Award for the T-Systems Data Center located in the Barcelona Synchrotron Park
The Data Center Market magazine awarded T-Systems for the 2013 most innovative Data Center project consisting in the construction of a modular Data Center located in the Barcelona Synchrotron Park, the most important modular Data Center in the world according to the company. It is a 2,680 m2 equipment expandable up to 8,000 m2 which represents a 47 million Euros investment, 17 million Euros of which correspond to the already concluded first phase.

Companies from the Barcelona Synchrotron Park will have a privileged access to the ICMAB scientific equipments
In the framework of the agreement signed on last September 4th between the Barcelona Synchrotron Park (BSP), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the UAB Research Park, BSP and ICMAB agreed to give a privileged access for the companies located in the BSP to the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB) scientific equipments.
The ICMAB is a research institute of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest research organization of Spain focusing on basic and applied research. The ICMAB includes about 220 people with more than 50 scientists as permanent staff. Its mission is to generate new knowledge in Materials Science and transfer it to the society.
To this end, the ICMAB has its own scientific equipments as Electron Microscopes, RX Diffraction Lab, Low Temperatures and Magnetometry Service, Molecular Beam Epitaxy etc. and the corresponding experienced personnel.
Companies from the Barcelona Synchrotron Park have now a privileged access in term of prices and accessibility to these equipments and the corresponding expertise.

The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology opens its new building
The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) with its 140 researchers, inaugurated on January 20th its new 6,700 m2 headquarters at the campus of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, the Barcelona Synchrotron Park works with.
The ICN2 is the result of a long-term collaboration between the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Government of Catalonia. The two centres agreed to join forces in their initiatives in nanoscience with the aim of strengthening research and knowledge transfer in this field.

Barcelona, the 4th smartest city in Europe
According to the last 2013 ranking of European smart cities made by FastCompany published on January 13th, Barcelona is 4th behind Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Vienna and ahead of Paris, Stockholm, London, Hamburg, Berlin and Helsinki.
FastCompany points out the support of Barcelona for the global smart cities movement as the Smart Cities Expo World Congress or the City Protocol initiative.
Taking into account all the innovations made by the city in this field and its quality of life, FastCompany concludes it is no surprise that the life expectancy in Barcelona is so high (83 years).

The Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca becomes a UAB-affiliated research institute
The VHIR-Vall d’Hebron Institut de Recerca affiliation to the UAB will provide the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona the Barcelona Synchrotron Park cooperates with, with the chance to incorporate an important part of the resources in translational research in biomedicine and become a principal element in research and teaching in this field.
The VHIR is the main instrument of the Vall d'Hebron University Hospital (HUVH), the largest hospital complex in Catalonia and the second largest in Spain in terms of scientific production. It promotes and directs clinical and translational research with the aim of helping patients have rapid access to the latest advances in diagnoses and therapies.

Visit of a Moscow City Council delegation at Barcelona Synchrotron Park (BSP)
A delegation from the Russian capital stayed a week at Barcelona in order to analyze the approach of the city to economic development.
Thirty people led by Deputy Head of Department of Science, Industrial policy and Entrepreneurship, wanted to get a first-hand look at the BSP project. A meeting at the synchrotron was organized in order to present the park, to pay a visit to the synchrotron itself and to do a complete tour of BSP.
